We would like to update all our visitors about the efforts Zoos SA is making with regards to the Coronavirus and the health and safety of our guests, staff, visitors and of course, our wonderful animals. In this fast-changing environment we continue to follow advice from State and Federal Government and SA Health.

This morning (18 March 2020), the Prime Minister made some further announcements about non-essential gatherings, specifically non-essential gatherings of one hundred people indoors and gatherings of five hundred people outdoors.  We are awaiting further information about what this means for Adelaide Zoo and Monarto Safari Park and will provide detailed information on Facebook and our website as soon as that information comes to hand.

In the meantime, we have a number of precautionary elements in place and are considering every scenario to ensure the health and safety of our visitors, staff and volunteers across Adelaide Zoo and Monarto Safari Park.

Our current response includes the following measures:

• Guests who have been asked to self-isolate due to potential exposure to COVID-19 are asked to not enter Adelaide Zoo or Monarto Safari Park.
• We have taken steps to reinforce our best-practice health and hygiene procedures and are working closely with  staff and volunteers on preventive measures. We encourage all guests to undertake vigilant hygiene practices and wash your hands regularly in our bathrooms and stand-alone sinks.
• We encourage visitors to bring their own hand sanitiser and wipes while we source more.
• We are thoroughly cleaning public areas to ensure high standards of hygiene at all times.
• Our catering partners Quality Catering, Adelaide Oval and Blanco Food and Events have put in place strict hygiene procedures to protect guests and employees.

• Extra signs will be placed around our zoos encouraging high standards of hygiene at all times.
• At Monarto Safari Park, we’re working with our bus partner Link SA to ensure our buses are clean and we’re exploring additional cleaning measures.

• In addition to considering the implications of COVID-19 to all visitors, staff and volunteers, we are also thinking about our amazing animals. Based on current evidence, the risk of exposure is likely limited to our primates. As a result,  we have decided to cancel all BAE and BTS experiences with our primates. We are also erecting fencing to maintain a distance of 2 metres between our primates and zoo guests, based on social distancing guidelines to restrict transmission of respiratory viruses.
• We’re reducing the capacity of our Lions 360 experience to 20 people each day. This is being introduced to enable social distancing at this time.

• We’re also weighing up our future events calendar to determine what is appropriate and what can be deferred to ensure we enable social distancing at our sites.
• We are working with those who have functions booked with Zoos SA and would like to postpone or cancel.

• Adelaide’s wildest accommodation offering ‘Wild Nights’ has been postponed until further notice.
• Our Zoo Learning Zoocation school holiday program has been cancelled for the upcoming school holidays and we’ve also cancelled Zoo Learning’s upcoming Career Awareness Day.

We will continue to respond to this rapidly changing situation and continue to do our best by all visitors, staff and volunteers, and of course our animals.
