The race to save Africa’s most endangered big cat

Sadly vulnerable to extinction, the future of these striking carnivores is uncertain. With only an estimated 6,600 individuals remaining in eastern and south-western Africa, the species is afflicted by habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict and the illegal wildlife trade.

Statistically, birth rates for cheetahs in captivity are extremely low, so we’re particularly proud that Monarto Safari Park has successfully bred a number of cubs.

Zoos SA also works closely with partners on the ground including The Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) to safeguard the species in Africa.

Chance for Cheetah

In 2023, Zoos SA will welcome back our Gala event and this time we will be giving a chance to Cheetah.

This special night will see funds raised to champion Cheetah conservation at the CCF and in Monarto’s new Wild Africa Safari experience along with inspiring a new generation to love this vulnerable species and invest in their long-term survival.
