Monarto Safari Park

Make a stand for rhinos

Thursday 22 September

As a persecuted species, with only around 10,000 Southern White Rhinos and 3,000 Black Rhinos thought to exist in the wild, World Rhino Day is observed to raise awareness of their plight.

Monarto Safari Park is home to a beautiful crash of five Southern White Rhinos and three Black Rhinos – the park is one of only two Australian zoos that house Black Rhino!

Catch the crash as part of the bus tour or touch, feed and learn all about these horned and humungous creatures during an experience.

New Black Rhino bus stop

Open to the public on World Rhino Day

Now you can step off the bus and wander down to see the Black Rhinos boys, Sentwali and Induna, with a new viewing track and platform. This is especially exciting after the expansion of their area with a new 5-acre paddock.

The race to save rhinos from extinction

The heartbreaking reality is one rhino is killed every six hours.

Rhinos are threatened with extinction due to excessive poaching with their horn traded on the black market. Alleged to have potent powers, the horn is in fact made of keratin and is no different to chewing on finger nails. Such senseless killing is wiping the planet of this species.

We support rhinos in Africa through work with The African Ranger Association, Kruger National Park Honorary Rangers and Sera Conservancy in Kenya.

In this time, Black Rhinos have been reintroduced back into Sera after being poached to extinction.
